Clifton Mathis was born in Fort Myers, Florida. He is an ordained minister of the Church of God and has ministered in youth, musical, teaching and pastoral capacities. Pastor Clifton and his wife, Leah have served as the pastors of the Alva Church of God since September 2005.

Leah is also a "South Florida girl" as she was born in Okeechobee, Florida. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and has previously worked in Lee County as a first grade teacher. She assists her husband with administrative duties, teaching, music ministry, and multimedia at the church.
